CALCULATING CAKE PORTIONS: 

Portion sizes vary depending on whether your cake is for a celebration or wedding.  Wedding size portions are 1 inch x 1 inch by the height of your cake, which is 6 inches.  Celebration cakes are 2 inches x 1 inches x 6 inches high.  If your cake is for young children, say under 5,  you also have the option to cut your full size portion ca horizontally to make it easier for them to handle. ​

As you can see, all of my cake commissions are very unique and specific to each individual client, so pricing your cake will be specific too.  Consequently,  I can only give you STARTING prices.  The smallest and most basic cake I offer is a 5 inch round vanilla cake, which stands 6 inches high and is split into 4 layers of cake and three layers of filling.  The filling is raspberry jam and vanilla flavoured Italian Meringue Buttercream.  The cake is then covered with chocolate ganache beneath fondant or buttercream.  Individual cakes are stood on a cake drum which has ribbon running around the edge and presented in a white cake box.  

 

The table below indicates portions and STARTING prices for single tier cakes.  Bear in mind that you will have some wastage around the edge of the cake when cutting, so I have taken this into account when calculating the number of portions per cake.  No-one wants a piece of cake which is actually just ganache and fondant icing, however delicious that is!  I hope it is helpful and gives you some idea of the starting price for your cake.
